Mary Ryngaert, ARNP, IBCLC

Mary RyngaertMary Ryngaert is a pediatric nurse practitioner with more than 25 years of experience in pediatric health care. Mary’s interest in Lactation Support began, as so many in this business find, with the birth of her eldest daughter, Jane, now in college. Frustrated and uncomfortable, she found a wealth of information and support in the lactation consultant on staff at Alachua General Hospital: Mae Perrin RN IBCLC. Now retired, Mae was an inspiration and support to generations of young mothers at AGH. With the subsequent birth of her other children, Andy and Cathy, the assistance and support of Mae’s North Florida Regional counterpart, Debbie Costello RN IBCLC, was a godsend. It was Debbie who recognized Mary’s love for babies and encouraged Mary to work toward certification as a lactation consultant. The process took 7 years, but in 2000, Mary passed the exam and became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Mary has taken an active role in working toward the establishment of the Center for Breastfeeding and Newborns at UF and enjoys the multifaceted aspects of the role: Clinical work, community advocacy, research and professional education. Ryngaert is the sole provider for the outpatient services at the clinic.
